Skein Queen Blush now available at Loop

From the shelves in my offfice…

…to the shelves of Loop.

Yesterday, myself and Kira travelled up to London with several boxes of SQ Blush destined for the yarn mecca that is Loop (15 Camden Passage, Islington).

It’s easy to see why Susan Cropper’s shop made the top 50 of shops in London in the latest Time Out guide – such a beautiful and tempting selection of yarns, books, notions and needles. We unloaded the boxes and the Loop team immediately got to work clearing a space in the shelves for MY yarn! And loaded it up into their online shop.

Let me give you a taste of what’s available at Loop (originally ten skeins of each, but some have already sold – all Blush – 4 ply cashmerino).

I’m not a writer-down-of-formulae so all of these were dyed from memory and photos. I’ve tried writing down step-by-step instructions on how I dye colourways from grams of dye to colours used, but it just never works – you lose some kind of spontaneity in the process and I’m never happy with the end result. Which is why I love these ones and it’s a real honour to have them stocked in Loop.

Each colourway was dyed in a batch of ten, each skein individually prepared with ties, coloured and steamed on the stove top and then individually hand-wound on my skein-winder, photographed and labelled – it’s a time-consuming process. But I think I’d like to work this way in the future for shop updates – dyeing in batches of five or ten. It may take me a few weeks to set up in this way, and they will ALWAYS be a chance to seek out the gems dyed in ones or twos, but I think it makes sense to offer larger batches where possible.

In the meantime, check out Loop and if you get a chance to get along there, ask if you can have a look at the shawl Susan made from two shades of Blush – the pattern is Andrea’s Shawl by Kirsten Kapur – really beautiful. Susan will also be bringing the SQ Blush along to Ally Pally this year (7th-10th October).

  4. Hello just wanted to give you a brief heads up and let you know a few of the pictures aren’t loading properly. I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different internet browsers and both show the same results.
