Welcome

Welcome to the world of Skein Queenery where you'll find unique colourways, luxurious yarns and great customer service. Skein Queen aims to create resplendent yarns enabling you to create unique knitting or crochet projects.

Skein Queen is a small independent yarn dyeing business established in 2007 and run by owner and master dyer, Debbie Orr. Originally from Scotland, all the hand-dyed yarns are now created in my royal workshop in deepest Berkshire, England.

If hand-dyed yarn is not perfect for the project you have in mind, Skein Queen also stocks an expanding range of cashmere in commercially-dyed solid colours which you might like to try.

New hand-dyed yarn is added to the shop every week or fortnight – you can find a preview on the blog the day before and the time of the update is advertised in the shop and on the blog.

Each of my colourways are dyed in singles or pairs - some are exclusive one-offs and some are dyed in larger batches but are limited in number. Every skein is personally dip-dyed and steamed, twisted up or reskeined and labelled by me, meaning each skein receives my individual attention. When buying hand dyed yarn, it is advisable to buy as much yarn as you will need for a project as I may not repeat the colourway you have chosen and even if I do, new batches could vary considerably from the original due to the nature of hand dyeing.

You will then receive your yarn beautifully wrapped in tissue with a small thank you card. Sometimes, you just need to give yourself a special gift.

How to Shop!

The best way to find out about shop updates is to join the SQ mailing list. Sign up here. The Lotus Yarns cashmere range is always in stock along with top-end, luxury knitting accessories such as needles, stitch markers and shawl pins and patterns which complement Skein Queen yarn. If you see something hand-dyed you like, but it’s not in stock, Skein Queen can usually dye you up a similar custom order at no extra charge. More information here.
