Unravel – the preparations

Three days to go until the big show. Here’s a selection of what I’ve been dyeing up in readiness. There are intense colours. Beautifully muted colours. Lots and lots and lots of lovely laceweight. And if you like that little lot, wait til you see what’s still drying -  some incredibly intense colourways of which [...]

Winter Clubs – January

Unless you live in the middle of a remote, isolated deep dark forest, the popularity of the Twilight series can barely have escaped your notice. You see the black book covers with red apples, ribbon, tulip petal and chess pieces in prominent positions in every bookshop, airport and newsagents throughout the land. In the end, [...]

Winter Ravelympics – Go Team SQueen!!

Well, it’s just hours until the Winter Ravelympics kick off and can I just say, Team SQueen has been hard in training – winding yarn, swatching, finding needles and equipment and sitting on the sofa eating chocolate. Team captains, myself, alabamawhirly and EmmaCo have been issuing encouraging words of support to the team and projects [...]

Brand spanking new image

For a while now, I’ve had a desire to unite all the disparate images I use for Skein Queen, from the old Mistral font to the stripy thank you cards and stickers. At last I can reveal the brand spanking new Skein Queen image thanks to working with the talented graphic designer, Patricia Lewis. Why [...]

Coraline KAL

Starting in March, we’re having a Coraline knitalong on Skein Queenery. So I dyed up a large amount of Desire in the sunshineiest yellow I could muster in preparation. It reminds me of the school buses in North America so I’ve called it School Bus Yellow I’d like my finished Coraline to wear with this [...]

A Grandiose Cowl

Knitted, in just two nights, with just one skein of Grandiose Aran merino in Storm colourway. The pattern is Burberry Inspired Cowl Neck Scarf by Julianne Smith with a few minor modifications. And it didn’t cost the £750 of the original cowl which inspired the pattern. No wonder I look so blooming smug snug.

Where has the knitted character been this week?

I’ve been meaning to post this for a while but now with Harry Hill’s launch of the K Factor competition, what better time. Skein Prince wanted to buy “the knitted character” from Harry Hill’s TV Burp for his sister for Christmas cos they both love it. We found the site that sells them – and [...]
